Natural disasters like earthquakes, tornado, tsunami and floods happen more frequently nowadays. There are many reasons why they occur, but the main one is related to human activity on Earth which often has a negative impact on our environment.

All kinds of disasters are usually very damaging. Many dwellings, roads and even whole streets and cities are ruined. The number of victims usually terrifies as hundreds or even thousands of people get injured or die in disasters. However, each disaster has a different nature.

For example, an earthquake is the result of the tectonic plates’ movement which leads to the shaking of a certain area on land. Earthquakes destroy buildings and people usually become victims because they get stuck or killed under the rubble.

Tornado is also a natural disaster which looks like an enormous column of the wind which lifts cars, bicycles, furniture and many other things. It is also called a twister and it can be very dangerous if touches the surface of the ground or water.

Flood in its turn happens when rivers burst their banks. Most extended floods damage cities and wash away whole populated places. Tsunami is another natural disaster which arises as a series of huge waves caused by underwater earthquakes.

Thus, there are many natural disasters which are dangerous for all of us. We should be careful and treat our planet better in order not to die with it.

Mass media: pros and cons

Mass media consists of printed production, television, radio and Internet. One can choose from a great variety of these sources. Mass media provides us with necessary information on things and events happening worldwide 24 hours a day. And it also helps us to spend our leisure time.

Its history begins with the first printed Chinese newspaper in 868 A.D. Europe saw its first book in 1453 when Johannes Guttenberg invented the printed press.
The influence of mass media is doubtless, but is it positive or negative? There are benefits as well as some drawbacks in this issue.
The very first benefit is information. Nowadays the information can be useful for people. It is very important for everyone because there are lots of things happening every minute in the world which can affect our professional and private life.

And it makes news accessible: just turn on the TV or look through news sites and you will be kept currently informed. Another useful purpose is education. Many people gain knowledge from the Internet and TV programs. It is an easy and affordable way to cultivate intelligence.
And what about drawbacks? As people use to say “Too much of a good thing is good for nothing”. This suits to the mass media. One shouldn`t rely on everything the newspapers say. Misrepresentations and bare- faced lie easily take place and misinform millions of people. Mass media can also manipulate the minds of the audiences as it was done in the times of theSoviet Union.

Today we witness the influence of various sources of mass media on youth. Tons of meaning lessTV- shows, glossy magazines and social networks steal young people`s time that could be spent on beneficial and healthy activities. They lose their own opinion and have nothing to say except the ideas heard from others.
To my mind we can’t imagine our lives without mass media. It is silly to avoid it as we can use its advantages.Though we should be careful and filter all information we get. I do my best to stay informed about the latest events and I’m fond of searching in the Internet.

But I don’t forget that mass media is only a part of my life and not the essential one.

А что насчёт недостатков? Люди постоянно говорят « Много будешь знать - скоро состаришься». Эта поговорка подходит к СМИ. Не следует доверять всему, что написано в газете. Искажённая информация откровенная ложь легко вводит в заблуждение миллионы людей. СМИ также может манипулировать сознанием людей, как это было сделано во времена Советского Союза. На сегодняшний момент мы является свидетелями влияния различными источниками СМИ на молодёжь. Тонны бессмысленных телевизионных шоу, глянцевых журналов, социальных сетей крадут у молодёжи время, которое могло быть потрачено на полезную деятельность. Молодёжь теряет своё собственное мнение, им нечего сказать, кроме как про то, что они услышали от других.

По моему мнению, мы не может представить нашу жизнь без СМИ. Глупо отказываться от СМИ, так как мы можем пользоваться преимуществами. Хотя мы должны быть осторожны и фильтровать информацию, которую мы получаем. Я стараюсь быть в курсе последних новостей, и мне нравится искать информацию в интернете. Но я не забываю, что интернет не является главной частью моей жизни.

Nowadays Mass Media plays a very important role in our life. The most popular means of media include television, newspapers, radio, magazines and Internet. These sources not only entertain us, but also educate and inform us about what is going on in this world. They influence the way we see the events, shape our views.

Some newspapers and TV programmes report the events not very objectively, but as for serious journalists and TV reporters, they are fair and provide reliable information to us. Today the world is full of dramatic events such as wars, natural disasters, murders, robberies, plane crashes, diseases. But these events interest people more than good ones, that is why we see so many programmes and read articles about them.

My favorite media resource is Internet because it represents all sources in one and that is its main advantage. I go online if I want to read the daily news, articles about things that interest me. I address the Internet when I want to listen to the radio or to watch a movie.

If I had no Internet, I would choose television. I find this media resource engaging and useful. The programs I enjoy watching are Discovery and Animal Planet. These programs are interesting and educational. I watch them in English to improve my language skills, to learn more about animals and scientific discoveries.

There are some people who prefer listening to the radio. One can do something about the house or drive their car while enjoying music or getting necessary information. I listen to music almost all day long, Sometimes I listen to the news in English on the BBC channel.

As for printed press, sometimes we buy local newspapers and some magazines. My mother reads about fashion and household. She always tries new recipes from her favorite magazine. My father prefers articles about sports and cars.

It is difficult to imagine our life without mass media. It is the part of the modern world: newspapers, radio, television and the Internet. Just imagine, almost every minute you face this or that kind of mass media.

Of course, nowadays most people prefer the Internet as a kind of mass media. You can find interesting news, know about special events or sales, invite many people to your party or arrange a meeting. The most important thing about the Internet is that you can do it in a matter of seconds.

Newspapers are still very popular kind of mass media. I would say the press is a very powerful kind. It is difficult to explain but people trust the press. Old people like reading newspapers. For example, my grandparents buy many newspapers every week. Young people prefer magazines because magazines are bright and contain the information which is more interesting for youth.

Radio is the favourite kind of mass media of many people. Listening to the radio, one can do a lot of things, for example, drive a car or clean the room. You can know useful information, listen to interviews or news. I like listening to the radio.

Television plays an important role in our life. There are a great variety of channels. We watch news, sport competitions, films, talk shows, for example. Everyone can find what he or she wants to watch most of all.

Mass media is an important part of the modern life. However I think that sometimes we need get away from mass media just to relax or spend time with family or friends.

Пожилые люди любят читать газеты. Например, мои бабушка и дедушка каждую неделю покупают много газет. Молодые люди предпочитают журналы, потому что журналы яркие и содержат информацию, которая является более интересной для молодежи.

Радио – любимое средство массовой информации многих людей. Слушая радио, можно выполнять много различных дел, например, вести машину или убирать комнату. Можно узнать полезную информацию, послушать интервью или новости. Я люблю слушать радио.
